Sumo Japanese Steakhouse is a chain of independently owned restaurants, one of which is on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Japanese Steakhouse has the usual options of Hibachi and Sushi Bars. The difference is the detail they put into the atmosphere and service.
The restaurant is nicely decorated with chocolate decor and wallpaper that’s irresistible to touching it because it looks like a fur coat or bag. The style along with the lighting contributed to the relaxing atmosphere.
Our hostess gave a nice greeting and was able to seat us immediately. We chose the regular dining area on this visit. Our waitress was friendly and fun. She got us drinks and took our orders quickly.
Later during the dining hour, she was persistent with getting our desserts right. We appreciated her efforts in making our dining experience a satisfying one. There were other guests dining, but not a full house. That made it easy for the waitress to check on us and keep things in order.
We dined on the hibachi shrimp that came with a large bed of fried rice and hibachi vegetables. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and came out fresh and hot. We also ordered the hibachi vegetables that also came with vegetable fried rice and garnishments on the side.
Third Time Was A Charm
We ordered their fried cheesecake with high anticipations. We know from experience that it must be frozen and flash fried, but with such a huge hunk of cheesecake, their process just wasn’t going smoothly. The first two were still frozen in the center, but after suggesting that they cut it into smaller pieces, they finally got it right. Our server was patient and persistent with solving the problem. We also appreciated the cook for taking our suggestions. Dessert was finally delicious.
