Searching for a local bakery is always part of my excursions while exploring different cities. This time while in Midtown Memphis, I was looking for a coffee house and stumbled upon Muddy’s Bake Shop. Most coffee shops keep some sort of baked goods on hand for guests to have with their hot drink of choice, but this bakery gave the best of both worlds.

Muddy’s Bake Shop is a bakery and café serving an assortment of desserts and drinks in a cozy setting. This location seemed to stay busy with limited parking, but customers still lined the streets to get in. It had a traditional coffee house look and feel with wood floors and seating inside. There was also patio seating in the front and back of the café. The string of lights on the back patio added a nice touch.

Muddy’s Bake Shop had polite staff and fast service. I placed my order and sat in to savor my dessert and surroundings. The bakery had an area with mugs, coffee, books and more for purchase to take home. The music coming from the speakers was barely noticeable with all the chatter, and still the coffee house had a very relaxing feel. I also noticed the familiar aroma of coffee lingering throughout the building.

They had my Kryptonite!

No coffee or hot drinks that day. I wanted to have my guilty pleasure in the form of dessert. I ordered the lemon butter cupcake with lemon buttercream frosting. It looked so delicious behind the glass with its bright yellow color, and it was too cute to leave behind.

The cupcake was so moist and fresh. The frosting had just the right burst of lemon flavor, and was smooth and creamy. The buttercream flavor lingered behind the lemon. We all know I know my cupcakes and this was a good one. If the other flavors are anything like this one, it’s more than worth giving them a taste.

Overall Experience at Muddy’s Bake Shop

If I was a local in Memphis (you never know what the future holds ?), this would be a spot I’d frequent. It seems to be a popular place where regulars meet for business and pleasure. I think of Muddy’s Bake Shop as a nice after dinner spot for dessert and drinks.

You can find Muddy’s Bake Shop at one of their two locations in East Memphis and Midtown! Visit their website for a daily update on their sweet selections.
